Hope Notes

  • Orcas: salmon hats, spa days, and peace offerings.

There’s a wave of new research on orcas that is ridiculously fun, interesting, and insightful. From studies on how these damn things are engaging with humans through “offerings”, to their fashion sense (I mean salmon hats aren’t for everyone but neither are mullets or faux fur purses), to their use of seaweed for backscratching (self whale care anyone?). In all seriousness, science is looking at animal behavior in new and exciting ways that will help us reimagine our relationship with animals. (jamie)

  • The heart of the matter.

I got the opportunity to steal my kiddo from the world and click off a 20 mile hike through the backcountry of the Olympic Mountains. Holy crap: full bloom, Dr Seuss level wildflower bloom, birds galore, the smells, the views, the wonder of it all. heart emoji, fist bump emoji. Yes Rob, it was a tequila toast (for me) and a much wiser/smarter water toast for my 20 year old hiking partner. This mom/conservationist/outdoor enthusiast is still smiling sore feet and all.

  • The perseverance of curiosity

Simple. I am hopeful because we keep learning. Recommend this read for anyone and everyone. (rob)
